REASONS FOR REFERRAL TO  A  NEUROPSYCHOLOGIST
Our evaluation is private, discrete and thorough, and provide you with
the needed personal comfort, privacy and confidentiality you deserve
during these trying times.
Physicians, neurosurgeons, neurologists, and therapists refer patients for a neuropsychological
evaluation to assess and monitor neurocognitive symptoms associated with:
        Traumatic Brain Injury, stroke, TIA, Hypoxia, and other types of brain injury
        Neurodegenerative disorders (multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, dementia, Alzheimer’s,
Parkinson’s, and other disabling neurological disorders)
        Hypertension, cholesterol, renal related cognitive disorders
        Viral/ Infectious disorders (encephalitis, Lyme, meningitis, EBV)
        Psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia, depression, anxiety)
        Neurotoxic disorders (lead, mercury, cadmium, aluminum)
        Metabolic/endocrine disorders (vitamin deficiency, diabetes)

You may seek a neuropsychological evaluation to obtain a baseline of your neuro-cognitive
functioning if you suspect that you may develop cognitive decline in the future.

Pediatricians, neurologists, and therapists refer children for a neuropsychological evaluation to
assess and monitor cognitive deficits associated with:
        Traumatic Brain Injury, hydrocephalus, Chiari malformation, stroke, and other
        types of acquired brain injury.

Autistic spectrum disorders- Autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorders, Asperger's
        ADHD, ADD, Attention Deficit Disorder, learning disabilities- dyslexia, dysgraphia,
        dyscalculia
        Premature birth, developmental delays

Epilepsy, seizure disorders
        Viral/ Infectious disorders (encephalitis, Lyme, meningitis, EBV)
        Psychiatric disorders (depression, anxiety)
        Exposure to neurotoxins (lead, mercury, cadmium, aluminum)
        Metabolic/endocrine disorders (vitamin or iron deficiency, diabetes)

Parents also seek a neuropsychological evaluation for their children to
determine whether
they are gifted and talented
. Gifted and talented children often benefit from an
educational setting specifically designed for gifted and talented children. Neuropsychological
assessment also determines child's cognitive strengths and weaknesses in order to prepare for
the
private school admissions testing.

Adults with various neurological and neuro-psychiatric disorders are often required to undergo a
neuropsychological evaluation to obtain an objective assessment of their cognitive and
psychological abilities and disability for the disability claim. Those children and adults, who
sustained a brain injury in an auto accident (MVA), slip and fall accident, or during a physical
attack are also recommended to undergo a neuropsychological evaluation to determine
which
neuro-cognitive abilities remained uninjured and which abilities have been
injured and impaired in such accident
.

Neuropsychological evaluation assesses
symptom exaggeration, extent of post-
accident  brain injury or disability, and the types and severity
of neurocognitive
disorders. Serial neuropsychological evaluations can track progressive decline and monitor
response to treatment. Evaluation can also help to differentiate various disorders. Upon the
completion of the exam, we diagnose children and adults with various cognitive and
developmental disorders, learning disabilities, dementia, post- accident brain injury, ADHD, and
other neuro- cognitive disorders.

If you do not currently suffer from a cognitive disorder and did not sustain a brain injury in an
accident, you can greatly benefit from a
baseline neuropsychological evaluation by
determining your current cognitive status. This evaluation is a critical piece of information
needed in case you develop memory loss and cognitive disorder in the future, whether it is
accident related or neurodegenerative condition. Comparison to your previously normal level of
functioning will allow to determine precisely how much of a cognitive decline you have
developed.
